Hi, please tell us about yourself and practice.
My name is Katelyn Wilson, RD and I’m an integrative and functional registered dietitian who specializes in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
I help my clients get to the root of their IBS symptoms so they can eat more of the foods they love and get back to living an active and fulfilling life!
You specialize in digestive health & nutrition, what are some of the common myths around this?
One of the most common myths I see is that dietary changes won’t help digestive symptoms.
When in reality, even small changes can make a difference in digestive symptoms. There are also research-backed diet strategies that help many people find relief in the short-term while we work on root causes.
What do you think the most common mistake people make when trying to treat their digestive issues?
The most common mistake I see is waiting too long to get help. By the time some of my clients come to see me, they have been dealing with their IBS symptoms for YEARS and are down to eating only a handful of foods. This is not okay. Part of my goal is to help raise awareness so people know that help is out there!
What tips would you give someone to manage digestive issues?
My top tips for those trying to manage their digestive issues is to stop chasing the latest fads and to work with a professional (like me!). Something may have worked for your favorite social media influencer, but that doesn’t mean it will work for you. Spend your time and money wisely and get guidance from someone who can help you find what works for you.
Before someone goes to see you, do they need to do any preparatory work, e.g. complete a food & symptom diary?
I offer a free 20-minute discovery call for potential clients to get to know me and see if we are a good fit. Then I have an intake form and health history questionnaire for them to fill out prior to our first visit. Part of taking an integrative approach to IBS means that I want to understand someone’s full health picture so I can get to the root cause of their symptoms.
What is one of your favorite gut friendly recipes?
I love making my herb-roasted whole chicken! Here is the recipe: https://www.katelyncollins.com/recipe/herb-roasted-whole-chicken/
You could also use Casa de Sante seasoning for this!
